The VA has the largest number of Research Principal Investigators in America. I worked with over 100 of them at the Sepulveda VA Medical Center. I met many others when was VA's Western Regional Director for Public Affairs. I cannot think of one of them who would allow something like that to happen with their research findings. Often, they are motivated to do research on an illness suffered by someone close to them. Many of them split time between seeing patients, training young doctors and doing research. They work hard most of their lives to keep others healthy or to find better treatments or possible cures for diseases. Drug companies and others make money supplying products. That is called capitalism. When things get out of hand we can modify the reimbursement system. President Biden recently reduced patient co-pays for insulin to $35.
