In other words, should personal opinions or values influence your public decisions? It seems our society holds that if traditional values influenced by religious convictions are held by a public figure then their ability to make unbiased decisions are questioned but if they hold modern progressive values then they should not be doubted and pointing out their personal life choices is being bigoted. Maybe it's just me. But to answer your question. Some values you hold like honesty, wanting the good of the other, should most definitely influence your public decisions. Other values like if you believe polygamy is fine or MAPS should be aknowleged should be kept personal. Is it up to the public to decide which values determine your public policies or not? That's the tricky question.
