gkar | This is not a freedom of speech issue, but freedom of thought. Thought can't, currently, be regulated or controlled by outside forces. | image tagged in gkar | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

It's fine. Part of the enjoyment of using these templates for replies is duplicating the style of the character used. If you wanted a more diplomatic way to say it with a religious character, you could have used Kai Opaka or Vedek Bareil. I would use Delenn.

Dali Lama | IT IS WRONG TO FORCE PEOPLE TO THINK THE RIGHT WAY PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO CHOOSE TO BE WRONG | image tagged in dali lama | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I never watched Babylon 5, but I'm familiar with wildly misattributing quotes to the Dali Lama. This one misses the mark even more than my last one. Even so, I do quite enjoy my right to be wrong. πŸ˜„

I think you would appreciate Babylon 5. Not only does it espouse tolerance of differing beliefs, but it also has a rather less rosy view of earth (and it's future) than Gene Roddenberry's vision. πŸ˜‰

You've mentioned that before and it's been on my radar. You haven't steered me wrong yet. Ooh, an animated version is coming out! The original only appears to be available through Amazon Prime for purchase.

I remember when it came out I figured it was just a Star Trek knockoff and ignored it. Ditto Farscape. (I also ignored Stargate and Battlestar Galactica, though I did catch Firefly.) At the time Babylon 5 was first being aired, I wasn't even keeping up with Star Trek Voyager.

Most of my media consumption now is youtube videos. Some of Zefrank's True Facts series is hysterical. I laughed so hard the first time I saw the one about the sea pig that I missed half of it. Same with the mantis shrimp.

To circle back to the meme, religion is a practice, whereas atheism has no active component...unless you count haranguing theists, which would explain the dim view of atheism taken by many non-atheists. Can't blame them--being persecuted by malignant theists was the reason I took such a dim view of religion for so long. Fortunately I came to realize that while they represent the majority of what is seen of religion, they are in fact a tiny minority. Unfortunately the shrill wailing of a tiny minority seems to be what moves the needle...or maybe that assessment is superficial as well? On one hand there's the aphorism about the squeaky wheel getting the grease. On the other hand, surveying the loudest portion of a demographic doesn't tell you about the entire demographic--merely its loudest members.

because it's just what many theists want, they want theism all over the world.

I mean, personally not. There's many understandable reasons to hate Christianity, I'm not the one to judge it.

If theism wasn't a thing then atheism wouldn't be a thing either, and atheism can't go until theism goes so...why can't we just get rid of theism?

At the risk of sounding holier-than-thou myself, you're one of the good Christians.

I'm certain the majority of Christians are content to live and let live. The problem is that their intolerant counterparts are the ones we recognize when we see them, so for many people they end up being the face of Christianity as a whole.

Now that I think about it, the same is true of atheists. Until recently, I was a militant atheist/anti-theist myself. I'm still atheist, but with an understanding that no one has the right to tell anyone else what they can or cannot believe.

Exactly. Religion is (*should be) a matter of choice, and it should stay that way.

Why do people say get rid of people like us? It doesn’t make sense!

Simple minds are drawn to things that remind them of themselves. Simpler minds are disgusted by anything that doesn't.
