Which is true?

Which is true? | No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man. There is nothing permanent except change. -- Heraclitus; I took a look at my life and saw that it too was a river, and the boy Siddhartha was separated from the man Siddhartha and from the graybeard Siddhartha only by shadows, not by anything real. -- Hesse | image tagged in amazon river, river, life, philosophy | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

If it is not the same river why do we call it by the same name? If it is not the same man how can any man be held responsible for previous actions?

One of the theories of the end of the universe is heat death where everything reaches a constant temperature. Therefore in the distant future it will be impossible for there to be any change at all. If the theory is correct.
