There is a code of ethics
The Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics
It is of course, entirely unenforceable
It'd be nice if anyone who claims to be journalists must first swear to abide by that code

I know that for some professions, the courts can use ethical codes to determine wrongdoing, but they rarely do.
