hot take opinion piece on arkuum (no hate toward ANYONE)

before i begin, i just want to make sure everyone knows this is not meant to spread ANY hate towards anyone. with that said,

here’s a few reasons why i disagree with the latest arkuum:

1) msmg has always been a community to make online friends, back when it was really great, and even now. whether or not we like the people here isn’t relevant; if you don’t like the community, you can just find another one. plenty of people have left bc msmg has gotten boring. bombing the stream just eliminates the fun for other people who could easily enjoy their time here.

2) speaking of “enjoying their time”, even if 1/2 of the people don’t enjoy their time and agree the place should be shut down, it’s still overstepping boundaries to decide the other half shouldn’t have a community. ik it’s good to touch grass and get a life, but some people legit cannot do that as easily as others can (i was homeschooled and could not go outside for many years as a child). For people like that, an online community is the closest thing they’ll get to friends. and you can’t decide what people will do with their lives. imgflip is far from the only addiction people have in this gen. Anime exists, youtube exists, NSFW content exists, etc. So it’s not even the most harmful.

3) if anyone wanted to come back and regain contact with ppl, that would have been ruined. we all change our usernames constantly, so gl finding anyone. Heck, i left imgflip for 5 weeks once and took a while to figure out who everyone was.

4) so we’ve been saying lately that MSMG is likely going through a “generation phase” where basically all the ogs are leaving and a new wave of ppl are coming in. Not many ppl online now will remember this, but back in 2020, adults said the same thing about how “kids were taking over the site”. They said the site was much better when it was adults who knew how to be polite, and they left because they thought we were all cringe. In that case, should they have bombed the whole community so we couldn’t be on here, just because they thought that we were cringe? (They were right, but should they have done that?) If they could and would’ve, we wouldn’t have made all the friends we made even back when msmg was good. It makes me think about how every generation, old people basically say that the young generation is cringe. Should they bomb all advancements in society bc they don’t like the character of the people inheriting it? We deserved our opportunity to have fun despite the older people’s opinions on us ruining the site, and so does the next gen of msmg memers. Yes, we’ll find them cringe. That’s part of human advancement. Everyone finds the next generation cringe.
