I would not be thinking about this movie at all under any other circumstance, just another shitty live action Disney remake to add to the pile, and yet here I am debating it with someone who's allocated far more braincells to it than it deserves because the idea of a black mermaid triggered them that much (never-mind that other Disney productions of the story have featured non-white actors in the role before).
