i mean the SMBM had a lot of musical references
and there is some character development
and tbh the wedding scene in STH2 was kinda padded out but it was funny so it can pass
and the songs for the STH movies weren't really remarkable aside from a few references and end credits (slappin end credits); average movie score
and the SMBM had a lot more charm tbh, they're setting it up for a sequel
but I do think the characters/worldbuidling/story was better in STH1&2

if we're talking about Agent Stone, then lemme tell you what he was doing: in the first movie, there really wasn't much he could do other then say modern things to everyone else that couldn't understand the doctor's big words and make a latte with steamed austrian goat milk

however in the second movie he was a lot more active, since we see him waiting for the doctor in the coffee shop, turn said shop INTO a supercomputer for Robotnik, stayed behind to keep things under control, joined the doctor inside of the Eggmech, used the mustache of said mech to destroy Tails' plane, and survived the whole crash disguised as one of the agents, suggesting that (if Jim Carrey doesn't return) he's gonna be working with Shadow in the third film

and what did luigi do? get his ass caught at the start of the movie, stop Bowser's fire using a sewer lid, and used the super star to help his brother

luigi might as well have been left out of the movie because there was NOT enough of him at all

then again luigi was also slowly undergoing development, (like tails lol) like how he's still nervous even with bravery in the games. he didn't change his personality from the games too much but did undergo bravery like in luigi's mansion. he's more of a character that prefers to help from a safe distance and not grab attention.

fair but i feel like the best point for him to get captured would've been when he was on the rainbow track with Mario

well he was pretty awkward the entire time
i do wish we saw more of luigi, but then the plot wouldn't exist as well

F the characters in the movie

The argument that Mario has no character development in the movie is because he never has it in the games is stupid. Mario is a video game, and it solely relies on its gameplay to lift it up. That's why it doesn't need characters in the games.

But this is a movie, and you can't back up a lack of character development with gameplay because all you're doing is watching the characters, not playing as them. The movie is where you have to start giving them some kind of character arc. But the Mario movie just doesn't.

The mario movie did feel a little fast but it was good and it did have references to other small characters in the game and music, also sonic movies just try to make them as fast as they can in two years, the mario movie took it's time to make a good movie

Yoshi was a good sight to see but I would've loved to see Mario ride him. And something else I forgot to mention was how long the scene with the Kongs were.

yoshi might appear in the next mario movie and I thought the kong scene was a decent length, plus you said the movie was going fast and now you're saying the kong scene was slow
