So basically one day I come home from school to smell burning stuff, and I go into the kitchen. There, the only thing on is the water, so I turn it off and the burning smell stops. Nothing was underneath the coil since we just cleaned it the day before. It never happened afterwards too so...

It wasn't boiling, it was steaming, but it smelled like it was burning, and we had nothing else on, since there was no other coil on the stove...
