I like Jack, but Heath's version was a portrayal with much more depth and substance. And the films themselves were much better, less campy and cartoonish. Dark Knight > the 1990's Batman franchises (all of them) > 1960's TV Batman. And I actually like Adam West, and met him several times as a youngster. The Neal Adams and Frank Miller Batman eras were the tops in the comic books...and those were the sources for the Christopher Nolan Batman films.

You are out of your mind if you think heaths joker was more “in depth”. He was flawed to the core when it comes to character. Every single thing jacks joker said was meant to be funny, even if it was dark and disturbing. I didn’t laugh once with heath. Also, those movies were a drag, not visually stimulating, no funny. The action scenes were ass! Honestly the best Batman is the Lego version.

The Joker, particularly as portrayed by Frank Miller, isn't meant to be a funny character. He's extremely dark. Less of a Clown, more of a Wild card. Jack's characterization was fairly one-dimensional. Ledger's performance was much more nuanced and menacing.

The Heath's performance was legendary! I mean, how many dead people can act in movies, let alone scowl all dour all day with makeup like that? Coming up with the first ever 5-star rating for a movie and giving him an Oscar wasn't enough. Batman 28 was the gREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIMe because of Ledger OD'ing on drugs!

But you can't even notice he had more fur than Chewbacca's big fat butt and a bigger muzzle than Marjorie Taylor Greene because that Jack Nicholson smirk just shined through the makeup and prosthetics. If you look closely at the pillow when he was getting offed in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, you can still see that Jack Nicholson smirk squeezing through. Jack Nicholson has been playing Jack Nicholson as Jack Nicholson since Adam realized the Gods made bigger boobies for Eve. Between that Jack Nicholson smirk and his grande "So whadda ya gonna do about it" line, he doesn't have to show up for filming. Just CGI his mug onto every movie...

Go read Frank Miller's Dark Knight series, and the Neal Adams Batman comics from the 70's, and you'll understand things better. The Nolan films are actually fairly faithful to best Batman comics and Graphic Novels. In those Joker is a total psychopath, but has a real logic to his character. I've seen every Batman film ever made, several times. The Nolan films capture the darkness of Gotham, quite well. The Keaton/Nicholson film was campy and upbeat. They had music by Prince ffs.

He died. That's it. The entire planetary system made a ta-doo about Heath Ledger - even inventing a 5 star rating for Batman 28 - because he OD'd. Period. That's it. He's the St JFK of movies. Ooh, he said his sardonic lines sardonically, as opposed to, um, whatev. An amazing reflection of the Millenial disdain of the times. grrrrrrr

Haha. You are entitled to your opinions. If I’m honest I probably like jack joker more because of nostalgia than anything else. But I did find heath to be a drag, and a front to the whole character. For example, Batman was punching him in the face and instead of fighting back he put on a pair of glasses and said “ you wouldn’t hit a guy with glasses would you?” And then took another punch in the face. Why? Because he thought it would be funny. That is the essence of the joker.

That being said jack is jack. That’s what he gets paid for. The departed! The shining! All iconic in there own right.

There were things I liked about the shining, I am not into the typical Hollywood beauty types. I’m obsessed with Shelly Duval. She was the most scared person in any movie ever. I thought it was cool how the hotel itself was a character.

Shelly Duval got me a tad tingly too. She's the only good thing in the movie, although Scatman Crothers was cool too, tho he was in it only briefly, if I recall correctly.
