Harvard Law has one of the lowest admission rates of any law school in the country. It is VERY unlikely that there would have been a lack of academic merit in his candidacy.
A thesis is for doctoral programs. For his J.D. he would have written a third-year paper. I don't know how much time you want to spend trying to undermine his scholarly credentials but if I were you, I really wouldn't pull on that thread.
Your best strategy might actually be to discuss the case on its own merits rather than the people involved in the case.
