Immaturity vs. Maturity; Dave Ramsey, The Total Money Makeover

Dave convinced me to cut up the credit cards years ago. Only owed maybe two grand, but it was the concept. Still don’t have any and when I rent a car they look at me funny. I can’t rent some cars, but that’s ok. I got a full time job, paid for house and am debt free. Thanks Dave! <3

Good for you! Ramsey is a great kick in the butt. We didn't have much credit debt either, but once we were out of it and stable with growing savings, my husband suggested a credit card with rewards, a Costco one since we're members. I was hesitant at first but it's been a great challenge that's we've succeeded at; the balance is paid off every month, so we don't pay any interest, and last year we got a little over $300 at the end of the year for rewards; but we don't buy things if we don't have the cash to cover the payment each month, that's how we've made it work. Joke's on the credit company -- they don't make interest on us and instead had to pay us for the rewards!

Nice! I know a few people who are using the card like you guys are. The card companies don’t like you, lol, but sadly there are others who don’t have your discipline.
That’s great how you’re able to take their bait and still wiggle off the hook.
I’m certain we wouldn’t let things get out of control and run up debt, but I’m too stubborn to try. My wife gets upset when the rental car company treats us like we’re criminals. I wish they’d drop dead but that ain’t gonna happen.
I’m driving a rental car now (vacation, yay!) but when they started to offer me a larger vehicle, they said, “Oh wait, you have a debit card, you don’t qualify.” the bums. I didn’t want the larger vehicle anyway, but they had to take a shot at me.
