The reason why conservatives "don't understand the issue" is because is IS NOT 'on a spectrum' it is arbitrary feelings-based ideology that doesn't make sense and the reason why your party wants to believe it does when it doesn't is for very arbitrary feelings-based reasoning because they irrationally get offended when people point out it doesn't make sense. Your analogy of comparing not agreeing with ridiculous ideology with something as actually bigoted as opposing interacial marriage is the most retarded false equivalency I've ever heard. You are comparing apples to pumpkins, nevermind apples to oranges. And you really displaying a very juvenile mindset. Opposing interracial marriage is bigoted because there is nothing fundamentally wrong with interracial marriage but there is something fundamentally wrong about arbitrarily 'identifying' as whatever gender at whim and Adam Graham or "Isla Bryson" is an example of that. Believing one can be this or that gender just by 'identifying' or in Adam's case probably faking. Also as for legitimately trans inmates, I suppose it is OK the put a transwoman in women's prison and a transman in a men's prison although I still see a bit of a problem with that. If a transwoman still has their p**is, they could rape other female inmates and get them pregnant and I would not want one to be pregnant with a rapist's baby even if they are a criminal. If a transman still has their va**na and uterus, they are in danger of being raped and impregnated by other male inmates. In fact, according to a study from the Canadian government, transwomen prison inmates are disproportionately they highest amount of sex offenders: https://www.csc-scc.gc.ca/research/005008-r442_E-en.shtml
