Exactly one reason I don't want him to be president.

We need leadership to unite the country. The current leadership of both Parties seems to want to divide us.

I wonder how we're going to pull it off though.

Arlington Cemetery is the subject matter, for context with this meme, the Confederacy, Statues,
and relation to Appomattox Court House Surrender of Robert E. Lee to U.S. Grant

bro national parks were created for a different purpose, unless you are talking about abandoned battlefields from the civil war, which in that case shouldn't be destroyed because of their historical value

“Glory! Glory! Yes, child the Negroes are free,
and when they knew that they were free they,
Oh! Baby! Began to sing…
‘You are free, you are free’…
such rejoicing and shouting,
you never heard in your life.”

-Fannie Berry, enslaved person present near Appomattox Court House at the time of surrender

Of course, the first thing a black mother does when her son is killed by gang violence is to bemoan the oppression of statuary.

Lincoln: "Malice towards none, charity for all."

Grant: “I felt like anything rather than rejoicing at the downfall of a foe who had fought so long and valiantly, and had suffered so much for a cause, though that cause was, I believe, one of the worst for which a people ever fought, and one for which there was the least excuse.”

Grant once owned a slave. He lived in a household served by slaves for many years. I have never heard this quote. Could you please post a source?

Grant's quote here in the context it was spoken, displays great humility and gratefulness in victory.

Something the people taking down the statues lack.

The motivation for destroying monuments escapes me. Not just Confederate monuments are being destroyed. Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, Columbus, and others are targets.

This is interesting but it does not address the original meme. Trying to erase our history is useless and does nothing but further divide the nation. The Biden administration seems particularly interested in finding new ways to divide us.

The Irony is that the original meme is addressed by Grant's quote. Consider that Grant's statue was torn down in an act of Vandalism in San Francisco. Does his statue count in addressing the original meme?

Especially, since the meme mentions Arlington Cemetery, built by General Meigs in the front yard of the home Robert E. Lee was born within? It was a nice touch for Meigs to place the tomb of the unknown soldier in Mrs. Lee's Rose Garden.
The same Robert E. Lee whom surrendered to Hiram Ulysses Grant at Appomattox Court House?
The General that demanded, acquired, and accepted the surrender in the defeat of the Confederacy addressed within the original meme. Ponder that.

Lincoln may have written the emancipation proclamation, yet Grant enforced and secured the reality. 1st by ordering Shermans' march to the sea, 2nd by accepting Lee's Surrender. 3rd, by enforcing and implementing Reconstruction policy during his own two terms as POTUS..
A man that as you astutely point out, once owned a slave. That Slave, William Jones, Mr. Grant also Emancipated in 1859. A full two years prior to The Civil War breaking out.

Although his father-in-law owned a plantation with a small number of slaves, his own father, Jesse Root Grant was an outspoken abolitionist, and full supporter of Free Soil Party Salmon P. Chase in his run for Governor of Ohio. The same Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Salmon P. Chase, whom oversaw the impeachment of Andrew Johnson, and Reconstruction during both terms of President Grant.

Yes, Grant's memorial, Lincoln's memorial, and many others have been torn down. Grant was a controversial character. Not exactly sure what your point is. Are you for or against preserving history?

Grant did what McClellan and Lee could not, and that is win, and put an end to the War.

I can't help you with your understanding of my point. I've made them fairly clear. thorough, & supported them with the sources you've requested. My points have been made in support of your meme. So if you are looking for a disagreement, you'll have to look elsewhere.
Thanks though.

You seem very knowledgeable about history. I have both Confederate and Union ancestry. I am very interested in preserving history. I think it is important to allow different interpretations of history to be considered. I think that is being threatened.
