No no, a lot of discussion was put into the Russian position on Ukraine joining NATO. Obviously a government that has been planning to attack Ukraine for thirty years doesn't want Ukraine joining a defensive pact.

Indeed. Russia should have no say at all about what NATO does. The real hypocrisy is that the USSR held the Warsaw Pact together for several decades by force.

Ironically, nobody has done more to spearhead membership drives for NATO than Putin. Finland weren't even interested in joining until all of this.
