Who gets to define what human lives are needed and what human lives aren't?

No one. It will vary for everyone you ask, because everyone views the world different.

So is there no objective standard? Suppose someone decides that your favorite actor or author or else is not needed. Should I just stand by and be silent if someone decides to kill that person?

The thing is you’re already claiming to like someone who already exists. If we just allow women the option to do what they think is best within 22 weeks, and if after only in medical necessity, then nobody has to worry about who or what could have been, because the life form was never brought into existence. That doesn’t affect you or me. Don’t understand why this issue is even an issue. It’s just alarming that the option is being taken away. And some states just make it law without putting it to public vote.

The life form was brought into existence. The fact that you describe it as a life form necessitates that. And just because all the people who should have an emotional connection with the baby may want to kill it, that doesn't justify killing it. If the government of some desert country decided to kill a hermit who nobody knew or liked, even if it doesn't affect me, I should still protest against killing someone civilly innocent.

I should have said parasite. Everyone with the pro life view lacks the understanding that not everyone is fit to be a mother. That’s why women can decide what is best for them. Not every woman will get an abortion, but that option should be available for those who want one and do get one. The pregnant alcoholic and or drug addicted woman can make the decision for herself if she wants to keep or terminate her pregnancy, but if that option is taken away then the states will have to step in ensuring those babies and mothers can escape addiction. It’s just unnecessary to force a woman to carry a pregnancy she doesn’t want to carry.

If a mother is unfit to be a mother, she shouldn't kill her child, she should work to become fit to be a mother. Just like a country that is unfit to support hermits shouldn't kill the hermit, but work to become fit to support a hermit. For an alcoholic or drug addicted woman, terminating pregnancy is worse for everyone (including the mother) than terminating addiction.

I don't think you understand the situation that causes on society when you have alcoholic mothers, and drug addicted mothers bringing children in the world that grow up in unstable households. The whole situation could be avoided. So I guess your the type to view life as Just let a woman suffer, and make her raise something she doesn't want, and will grow up regretting, and hating all her life, and just let the child live in a household where they will know no love, and the quality of life will be that of the rats for both of them. How wonderful it must be. Everyone acts like everyone lives well cushioned lives like the ones we see on tv. If only people knew how many mothers are raising their children out of their cars, and homeless shelters. In regret just because a society chastised them for becoming pregnant and blamed them into not making a choice because it was against their religion.

Well Culedood it goes to show how sheltered your are from the real world, and the many faces of addiction. If you didn't know that women who sell their bodies for drugs winde up pregnant all the time, and just puck these kids off to the foster system while the mother ends up in jail for having a child with drugs found in its system than that makes total sense. I don't really get how most people who are well off in this world have no clue what is going on around them. Like totally clueless to the big picture because nobody can get around the fact that a fetus turns into a human, and as we all know humans die anyways, whether its before, during or after birth, a human is going to die no matter what. Why is it ok to force something to live that is going to die eventually anyways when a woman doesn't want it? Besides addicted women who seek abortion, their are many different reasons why a woman seeks an abortion. Become a social worker and put yourself in harms way when you have to remove children from families with drug, neglect and abuse problems. Sit in on supervised visits to the mother who was addicted and lost her children but still doesn't know why. Go to a house with 18 kids one baby daddy and 5 different baby mamas all living in a 2 bedroom apartment. These are just some of the situations happening in America, and these are the light hearted ones.

There are other options than drug addicted parenting or child murder. As I suggested in my previous comment, the addiction should be terminated rather than the pregnancy. Another option would be adoption. It's obviously not ideal for kids to be raised by people who are not their birth parents, but it's better than abortion. And above all, these situations could almost always be easily avoided if people just didn't have sex if they weren't willing to face the consequences.

I am well aware that there are terrible situations in the world, but none of those you described justify murder. One argument you made is "Why is it ok to force something to live that is going to die eventually anyways when a woman doesn't want it?" First things first, I'm not forcing anyone to live. The baby is already alive. Secondly, your argument that if the mother doesn't want her baby, she should have the right to kill it is completely stupid. Even if everyone in the world didn't want an innocent person to be alive, that doesn't justify killing it, no matter the location in reference to the uterus.
