I've been mining. A lot.

I haven't fought the eye of Cthulhu (or any boss) and have probably died a hundred times.

I have full platinum armor and JUST got some flurry boots, I'm currently searching the underground jungle to get materials for the blade of grass. I would go for the blood butcherer but I haven't used the blade of grass before and want to see what it does

I've also built a sky rail to get around the world more easily

Update on the blade of grass: I just got it, but it didn't get a modifier when I crafted it. But it's still a pretty good weapon

Just because they show up in gold chests doesn't mean you get them first try. I looted several gold chests and constantly got maces, bands of regen, and magic mirrors.
