Fact is that viruses have traditionally been named for where they first appear like “Spanish” flu, “Zika” virus, “Ebola.” It wasn’t until Trump that you were admonished forcalling it the Wuhan Flu even though that’s what the CDC called it in the early days.

There is one group who is perpetrating the vast majority of hate crimes anyone can see by pulling up videos of Asians being attacked. It isn’t Covid motivated either.

That's probably because naming viruses after the places they originated from has a tendency to lead to racially motivated hostility towards that country of origin even if they had nothing to do with it.

Case in point, the Spanish flu didn't originate in Spain, it originated in Kansas.
