Both sides of the Russian Civil War were f**king demented. The atrocities both sides committed against each other were unbelievable. The whites had some liberal supporters but it was mostly holdover supporters of the Czar and the oligarchs. Hard to have much sympathy for them. Reminds me of the anti-Assad opposition in Syria. I don’t think Russia had a good option, then or ever.

Btw, I should have clarified, in the Portuguese Colonial War, I support UNITA (Jonas Savimbi's anti-colonialist and anti-communist Union for the Total Independence of Angola), but oppose the MPLA (communist People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola).
