The only difference between real life and the movie, is that in the movie, the government actually cares enough to help the people evacuate and is honest about it. In real life, government sucks.

I agree, government sucks, at least the way it has evolved. Decades ago I was on a Town Council, and I recognized quickly how well our government works when it is close to the people, and how much less effective it was the greater the distance from the people it governed. Even the local level of government has been contaminated now.
