Whenever the government proposes speech restrictions, the citizenry (“the rabble!”) revolts against said bans with all manner of memes designed to vex and confuse and subvert.
Surely you remember how pro-LGBTQ content spiked on I_P right about when former-whatever IG was trying his darndest to ban gay pride flags and kissing memes and those sorts of things? And how IG’s efforts to flag and censor those memes anyway ultimately resulted in the loss of his mod?
So, it ain’t gonna happen. Even if you’re elected, it ain’t gonna happen. With very few exceptions (Imgflip site terms, the mudslinging rule), this is a very pro-free speech stream. A First Amendment-type provision is baked into the constitution. The speech issue has been litigated and re-litigated and re-settled time and again. But if you wanna re-open it, let’s go!
As long as y’all are pushing the prudish anti-NSFW agenda around here, it will become the duty of pro-free speech patriots like myself to probe and prod and make your lives difficult.
Like this meme. Query: Is a woman wearing a full ankle-length dress that exposes a single leg up to her thigh being NSFW? She’s not shoving her ass or boobs in anyone’s face. Is she being “erotic” or is she just being normal? What if she works as a cocktail waitress in Vegas — then she’d be dressed appropriately “for work,” (belying the “FW” part of “NSFW”), wouldn’t she?
Different people will have different answers to those questions, and that’s the point. It gets trickier and trickier the closer you get to the borderline, and rest assured, if a ban is passed, we’ll be posting all kinds of debatably-NSFW content to figure out where exactly that borderline is.
Personally, I think a dress like the one in this meme is equivalent to a typical dress you’d see on a Disney movie, G or at worst PG content, which would make marking the meme NSFW an abuse of mod.
We can keep traveling down this road, or y’all can call off the anti-NSFW crusade now. Doesn’t matter to me.
