My problem with this theory is that it assumes that humans are the "ultimate lifeform", which is a massive overstatement. I'm not particularly religious, but I still respect Christianity and believe in science. I think that the reason why humans are so successful as a species is because we're intelligent and social creatures. Most creatures with similar intelligence, like crows and pigs, are either antisocial or don't have limbs capable of making tools and stuff. Creatures with the correct anatomy for making things, like octopodes (which tear off jellyfish tentacles and use them as weapons as well as construct armour out of shells) are antisocial but on the few occasions that they do come together, they establish hierarchies and hunt and build collectively. Humans happened to have all the requirements needed to form a successful civilisation (able to use and build tools, intelligent, and social).
