In Matthew 10:34-39 Jesus said:

You seem to be missing the point: your cliff notes version of the bible doesn't exist and never did. Your professors made it up outta whole cloth. Cross referencing it with the Koran wouldn't change that.

A couple of Sundays ago, my pastor preached on the love of money. The myth is that money is evil/sinful but the love of money is the real problem.

Even a poor person might not make it to heaven because they can have a love of money.

Hebrews 13:5 says, "Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”

Revelation 5:11-12 says, "Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders. God never said don't have money because having money is a way to live, but having the extras that you don't need or wishing for the extras to more than an extent is the problem.

Money can be put to beneficial uses, like charity. Socialists aren’t against money in principle either. The basic tenet of socialism is ensuring people have enough to live. Not enough so that everyone can have a private yacht and 10 homes, but enough so that everyone can have a full belly and a roof over their head and access to a doctor. I can’t imagine the Jesus I know objecting to any of that.

Don't forget you can do your tithes every month, which is to give 10% of your money a month so the church can survive but mainly faith towards God. Who really cares if church is in a nice modern building or if it is outdoors, or even in a decent tent.

First Timothy 6:10 "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
That means rich people are going to hell. That doesn't mean Jesus was a communist.
The "hippie jebus" is entirely and demonstratably false. Reading three verses outta context and pretending that's what the bible says doesn't change that.

We can argue over the exact meaning of Jesus’s teachings on wealth, but it’s fairly clear to me he falls more on the socialist end of the spectrum if we’re trying to map it onto more familiar political categories of today. Jesus didn’t have a full unified economic theory and it wasn’t communism (which didn’t yet exist). But oppressed vs. oppressor, poor vs. rich and the concept of the “meek inheriting the earth” are strong running themes in the teachings of Jesus.

Jesus did give out free meals and free healthcare, albeit with miracles that didn’t cost a dime to administer, so it’s not as if it’s the full-on Bernie Sanders plan.

What seems clear upon any reading of Jesus is that he was a traveling ascetic preacher who rejected material things in favor of the spiritual. All of that makes him fairly similar to a hippie, my opinion.

Retconning Christianity to support [current thing] is just as big of a lie as retconning Christianity to support the Westboro "church."

There’s certainly a lot more scriptural support for the idea of Jesus as a proto-socialist critic of the powerful than there is for the idea of Jesus as a Westboro-style homophobic, racist bigoted hate-monger.

Personally, i believe that we should take what jesus said by fact, not by what some monk wrote down hundreds of years after. IF we look only at the facts, we get a jesus who only wanted peace on earth, not what true evangelists say, which mostly (DISCLAIMER: NOT ALL) use the bible as an alibi to just be unforward-thinking, past-dwelling, homophobic, etc. values.
