Mohammed actually wanted to go the Chistian route, but then realized it had deviated from Judaism to the point of way too much distortion, missing its own message. He had considered Judaism as well, but it would be kind of hard convincing the masses to convert to the religion of a people that worship a God who allowed their enemy (Rome) to erase their country and chase them out of it. Not quite convincing in the almighty category there. So he basically copied Judaism, albeit, as it suited him.
He did NOT make it really misogynistic, because all that stuff IS in the Bible, and noticible aspects of it permeated our own culture well into the 20th Century, and even some to this very day. Granted, they weren't stoning adulterors in the 1900s, but women were in effect the property of men with no right to vote nor own land nor open a bank account, and child brides were still a thing. Shortage of brides out in the prairie, the practice was still a popular one. In brothels too. Unlike what we see in Cowboy Movies, those places weren't just a bunch of bawdy voluptuous babes hanging out all day and night at the saloon with their ultra buxom madam cracking jokes. There was some very sick stuff going on, with absolutely no escape and no one to turn to for help.
