Isn't That Taking Away Our Freedom Of Choice?

Yeah, there used to be something called "voting with your wallet" and "letting the free market decide".

When the government puts their thumb on the scale either through incentives, taxation, or full on outlawing products it is actually taking away their citizens' freedom (as you said) but also stifles the competition that allows the best solution to certain problems to rise to the top and be recognized.

I know it's all about the money. The money from campaign contributors, kickbacks and so on... If they can control what you're able to buy they can control where your money goes.

But you are absolutely right with less money innovation is stifled.
