Original idea, only slightly refined: Story in which a spaceship carrying the last living man crashes on a planet where there was a former colony of humans, abandoned. He ejects from the spaceship, but has to get back to wherever the ship crashed because the ship contains the last viable embryonic children, in stasis but alive. The ship also contains the last pieces of hardware that are able to artificially gestate these children. The main character must travel across the planet in order to find where the spaceship crashed, because he received messages on some sort of futuristic watch that the ship was still working and carrying the children. However, there are still mutant beasts and creatures living in this abandoned wasteland. The reason that the colony was abandoned was because of orbital bombardment with nukes. It’d been 60 years since the planet was first abandoned and left to the mercy of the ecosystem.
