Fun fact: In the original version of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book, the Oompa Loompas were actually black people, basically slaves. The books were apparently recalled pretty quickly and re-released with them changed to Oompa Loompas. Some copies of the book in its original form did make it out there though beforehand

actually, Roald Dahl originally intended them to be "olive-skinned pygmies from the forests of Africa to replace his sacked white workers, which love chocolate because all they ate previously was grass, vegetables, leaves and the bark of the bong-bong tree."

This veered dangerously close to racism so Dahl was forced to change them to be orange skinned.
