Oh I have no problem with anyone, Trump supporter or otherwise, who wants to put forward ideas to solve problems.
I do have a problem with cynically invoking issues like homelessness and healthcare as propaganda tropes to defund other worthy priorities.
MAGA Republicans seeking, offering, let alone implementing solutions for homelessness? For lack of access to healthcare? Real ones? Can you show me where they’re doing that?
I’ve never seen a lick of genuine concern for the homeless expressed from that political faction. Matter fact they’re always punching down at and ridiculing the homeless except when it’s time to suddenly champion the cause of freezing Americans for the limited purpose of defunding freezing Ukrainians.
I’m looking at what they do, not what the latest right-wing meme says. Across the board, whenever they’re in power, Republicans systematically defund social services and redistribute wealth upwards through wealthy-favoring tax cuts.
Note I’m not blaming Trump entirely. This outlook predates the Trump-era GOP by several decades (going back to Reagan, if not Nixon or even earlier), but nor has it changed under Trump.
Working-class Republicans get some chest-beating and cultural war crumbs from the table (anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ, conspiracy theories, hot takes on the latest outrage-du-jour), while donor-class Republicans get to feast. That’s always been what you sign up for as a Republican.
Despite everything else that’s changed under Trump, the MAGAfied Republican Party has only made that clearer. Their “solution” to more social and economic inequality is more feverish culture-warring. In the short term, that may solve Republican problems. It doesn’t solve American ones.
