My worry is that we're dangerously conflating gender with personality.

There's gotta be a reasonable middle ground between the 1950's and "my gender is an astral inclination".

I think what you're saying here is close to the often used "I identify as a cat" argument. It's where the most insane extension of the observance of the truth that there are multiple genders existing as overlapping gradations becomes a strawman argument. Show me the people who have identified themselves as cats and further show me the people who support their assertions on the basis of choosing a gender. I believe you'll come up short on both counts. The middle ground is pretty much the "leftist" position and it's the "right" who are in the extreme in asserting binary gender with nothing to support it other than cultural norms trying to fit numerous pegs into a pair of uniform holes.

This seems to be a trend where the left is painted as equally extreme when in fact they are supporting facts, science and an inquisitive investigation of the truth while the opposition is closed minded, ignorant of facts and science and is illustrated as being either less or equally extreme.

Always refreshing to get someone who responds civilly and intelligently. I appreciate it! I do think you're creating a bit of a strawman there, but if you were merely pointing out the dichotomy of the argument in general then my bad.

The fact is that we have, I believe, 72 'genders' listed per my latest brief internet search on the matter. That is...a lot for a species with only two sexes. I'm all for ensuring we don't suppress individuality and enabling psychiatry and medicine to support people in whatever way best helps them. Again, the 1950's were not exactly the best of times for gender equality or understanding. But I do think we're playing with fire by working so hard to separate gender from sex; it's not that there is no room for depth to the topic of gender, but I really feel that we're crushing the wiggle-room of personality and thereby causing identity and confidence crises across society, especially in kiddos.

Just my $0.02 and response to you. It's definitely an important topic for discussion.
