this movie release is so poorly timed. It might have done better 10-15 years ago.

This move is a snoozefest. Very bad is putting it nicely ... would put even the most WOKE person ASLEEP. Hardly anything happens except Will running around for 1+ hour, then one obligatory quick Union/Confederate "battle" and then the credits roll. PBS documentaries have more talented scene re-enactments.
