Thank you! I am filing this under "Tragic Yet Hilarious".

It does not. In order to be non-profit, the hospital agrees to take Medicare/Medicaid at a discount. The government pays only ~87-88% of the cost. To keep from going in the red, the hospital needs to make that up by charging more to patients who private pay or have insurance. Most nonprofit hospital operate on very small margins (revenues minus costs).

Not only are employees paying Medicare taxes for those on SSID, they are subsidizing SSID patients through higher insurance premiums and hospitalization costs.

That's probably part of the reason they are so bad at what they do.

Well, because then we can spend the same amount of money on more of the actual healthcare part.

That’s not working in Canada and UK.

You're referring more to what happens if the government chooses not to spend that money. It still can if it wants to.

Why will people become health care providers if there is no profit in it?

Are you aware that your local firefighters and police officers also don't turn a corporate profit from what they do?

Maybe that's why most people are so unsatisfied with their performance.

The fire fighting service used to be run as a for-profit contract.

This is a true story. This goes back to the 1800's. The city would give the contract for putting out the fire to whichever company reached the fire hydrant first.

People died as mob wars raged outside their burning homes, fighting - literally, physically fighting - over which compamy would get the pay day.

That is THE reason we took the entire service into government hands, never to be run by private enterprises again.

You're being smug in your assertion that profits are the only way to increase performances. I'm telling you: from the pages of experience and history, and on the blood of all the people who died to prove it: you're wrong. 100% wrong.

Equating health care with a house on fire is illogical.

Almost every society on the planet considers them both to be life-saving emergency services that are absolutely needed.

Monopolization is what causes medical products and services to be overpriced in the US. Complete monopolization (which is what nationalization does) will not help. Competition is what raises the quality and lowers the prices of products and services regardless of the category (except WHILE a house is burning down).

But it's not a monopoly. It's municipalization.
