I mean, she did *technically* violate a (stupid, surely haphazardly, and surely in this case selectively-applied) Russian law regarding controlled substances, but the real motivation here was leverage. Russia scooping up any American under whatever pretext they could find. The more famous, the better.

My issue is that there are much larger issues at play than the fate of one particular basketball player. If the international arms dealer that Russia got in exchange is past his prime and no longer a real threat, then whatever.
Still, I think the diplomacy in this case would have been better left up to Justin Bieber.
