The real Thanksgiving part 2: Native perspective.

The Wampanoags were afraid. More ships kept coming bringing more Europeans onto their land. Where they went, there were sometimes sus outbreaks of disease among Native People. There were cases where tribes thought they were getting along with the interlopers, only to be betrayed. Chief Massasoit knew he had to be ready for anything. Then it happened: the sound of many gunshots near the town. Massasoit called everyone together & asked who was willing to fight & die to protect everyone. 90 heroes answered the call. They smoked the war pipe, prepared their weapons, then headed in the direction of the noise. However, instead of an invading army they only found what looked like a big picnic. It was quite confusing. The white folks looked confused too, but eventually suggested: now that you're here, we might as well eat together. Massasoit pulled himself together, agreed to join them, but said there's something we need to do 1st. The war party headed into the woods with their weapons, soon returning with 5 deer carcasses - now there was enough food for everyone. So that day ended well; it was half a century before the English turned against the Wampanoags.
