patrick not my wallet

patrick not my wallet | Yes. The Second Amendment to the US Constitution says the right to keep and bear arms "shall not be infringed"; In the early United States, civilians legally owned muskets under the Second Amendment. Ok. At the time, the same muskets were used by the US Army. And? No, it's for the militia, which is the National Guard. Thus, civilians should be allowed to own military-grade weaponry under the Second Amendment. | image tagged in patrick not my wallet | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

I don't think these cosplaying, U.S. Capitol-assaulting morons are a part of any Militia the Founders would have recognized.

They're a threat to self-government pure and simple. Washington put down a couple treasonous movements rather like this - see: Shay's Rebellion, Whiskey Rebellion.

When did I ever imply THEY were the militia?

Indeed. It's not like every self-styled "militia group" was present at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. In fact, most of them weren't.

But a lot of the largest and most high-profile ones were (Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, 3%ers, etc.). A lot of that militia subculture very consciously sees themselves as defenders against internal enemies.

And why wouldn't they? The U.S. is not going to be invaded any time soon. The idea that the British could sail in at any moment and sack Washington, D.C. like during the War of 1812 just isn't true anymore. There are no more bands of armed Native Americans on horseback roaming the American West.

Without a real target, it seems like militia groups turn their sights on other Americans, and that's what concerns me.
