Yep, and there's the irony. Despite bitter complaints they are now lining up to pay for what everyone also acknowledges to be a meaningless checkmark.
If your tweets are consistently good then you don't need it and -- now that all the bots have been turned off -- if you reek as a twitter user then paying for a checkmark isn't going to get you any more followers.
