It doesn't always count as two homicides depending on where the murder took place and how far along the fetus was. Generally in these situations there would be a charge of murder and a lesser charge along the lines of harming a fetus or reckless endangerment.
While I'm sure you've seen it on television, murder charges in these situations are incredibly rare as prosecutors have a very hard time convincing juries to accept that a fetus can in fact be murdered.
