The middle class can't be destroyed because its just the midline of median incomes in the US. It can be narrowed and it can be attacked though.
To your question: Yes, the entire fiat money system is based on rumors and not actual value. As long as that's true everything can fall to a rumor.

You gotta understand our entire financial system is not longer a fiat system. Its a confidence system. As soon as Biden shut down the pipeline the confidence fell to abysmal levels and was followed by the leases being pulled. That was another blow to the confidence. That's why our economy is in free fall now.
