In the Gospel of Luke, it shows how eternal the Lord's forgiveness is. It's my favorite story in the gospel. A father shared his wealth with his two children. One stayed on the farm and helped his father, while the other went to the nearby village, and lost all of his money to sinful things. He arrived back to the farm poor, all of his father's wealth gone, and said to his father, "I do not deserve to be called your son." The father, instead of being angry, was overjoyed at having his son back and called for a celebration. The other son asked why, where the father declared, "This son of mine was dead and is alive again! He was lost and is found!" That is an example of Jesus' mercy. It basically means, no matter where you are in life, if you find the Lord, and repent for your sins, Jesus will forgive you, and welcome to the eternal paradise of the afterlife!

"For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. So they began to celebrate." Luke 15:24

return of the prodigal son | MERCY | image tagged in return of the prodigal son | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
It's one of my favorite parables as well. Christianity teaches that God is indeed merciful willing to forgive sins but forgiveness can only be recieved buy a truly repentant heart. If you sin, say sorry, and then turn around and sin again thinking you get out of jail card each time that's missing the point and not the way to get to heaven. Your life will be changed if you truly believe in God's love and forgiveness.

But it's still baked into the system.

Kill a bunch of people who aren't Christians. They are going to Hell.
You feel remorse and accept Christ into your heart. He forgives your sins.

Instant get out of Hell card.

Despite all the murder.

You don't have to take responsibility for anything you've done with that feature. You can be as shitty as you like. Treat everyone with infinite cruelty.

But as long as you do the whole "I accept" right before you die, you're good to go.

Actually the 5th commandant, which hopefully most Christians follow says Do Not Murder. In my church breaking any of the 10 commandments intentionally and without true remorse and making reparation for that sin would wind the murderer up in Hell not the person murdered. I'm concerned you actually think true Christianity teaches what you just said

Not supposed to murder, huh?

Kate. You really need to read what's in the books of the bible, and not continue to believe what you were told as a child.

Maybe in the Catholic church the 5th commandment is the don't kill people?

In the Evangelical church, it's honor your parents. Murder got bumped to 6th.

But 5th, 6th, honestly, that's not important to my point.

My point is the Book of Joshua 5:13-6:27.

Spoiler. It's the Fall of Jericho. Where in God says "that's all yours. March around it for some days. Then go in." It ends with them murdering everyone. Lemme quote: 21 Then they devoted to destruction by the edge of the sword all in the city, both men and women, young and old, oxen, sheep, and donkeys.

The final verse says, and I quote again, So the Lord was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land.

Of course there's Elisha and the Two Bears (2 Kings 2:23-25).

If you're not familiar, Elisha curses two boys in the name of God, and then 2 bears show up and eat the kids. Why? Because they called him bald.

Murder by Bear.

There's also more murder! Here's just some highlights, not even an exhaustive list (there's A LOT):

Deuteronomy 13:13-19
Exodus 22:17
Exodus 22:19
Leviticus 20:13
Leviticus 20:9
2 Chronicles 15:12-13
Isaiah 14:21

That's all the times it's okay to murder.

Seems like God was super duper okay with a lot of murder. I mean, a lot.

About now is when Christians say "oh, but that's the OOOOOOOLDDDD TESSSSTIMEEEEENT"

Yeah. You brought it up with the 10 commandments. It's got tons of murder. Despite the rule against it.

Which Christian religion teaches this? Please show me the page number in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I must have missed the lesson on how to get to heaven while murdering your neighbor as long as you convert on your deathbed part. I'm sorry you've been hurt by Christians, from the sounds of it you've experienced some kind of trauma. I'm here if you need to talk.

Yours. Article 4: The Sacrament Of Penance And Reconciliation. There's the conversion part. There's the interior penance part.

Also, Bible verses! John 2:2 Acts 10:43. Colossians 1:14

You should know your own religion better, Kate.

It's baked into the system. Be as shitty as you want to be, but then feel bad about it later and poof! forgiven.
