The crystal has existed since existence began existing, just like Mr void.

Meaning it's as old as time itself

It can only be broken by godlike beings

So that means redi, inkmatas, eggyhead, and beldum could theoretically break the crystal, along with Mr void but he's destruction itself so he can break anything

Luckily three of the four are on the collector's side, and acknowledge how important the crystal is so they wouldn't think to break it

Now, the effects of actually breaking the crystal were shown in the story of darkspace collector

As you saw, darkness consumes EVERYTHING

As the shards of the crystal fade the darkness becomes more powerful

It's a side effect of Mr void existing, so it technically exists in the main timeline however it cannot spread because the crystal is still intact

When the crystal has a strong connection to a living being it creates a separate realm known as the realm of creation, which can be used as a storage area for a seemingly infinite amount of items

The main area is a simple flat plain, entirely made of a shimmering liquid

In this area you can summon any item or room from other layers of the realm of creation

The next two layers are for storage, the first one is an infinite world of shelves

The second is similar to the first but has larger shelves for much larger objects

Small building, mech armor, etc

However in some cases these two layers merge for quickly finding multiple things without having to switch layers

The third layer is completely controlled by memories

It manifests places that you've been and if requested can manifest people you've met

However it's all fake

Anything manifested in this area is not real, a simulation

It is very useful for battle simulations because the copies are nearly perfect, and retain all battle experience

You can also bring guests in but keep in mind they don't have control over it so make sure they don't get lost, same goes for the other layers

Luckily it's easy to tell the difference between a real person and a copy if you have heat sensing goggles

And now the fourth and final layer

This one is like the mirror dimension, but nothing from the real world is distorted. you can explore reality freely but nobody can interact with you and you can't interact with them

Basically invisibility but better

Now I know what you're thinking:

"Why would anyone need this if the crystal can create ANYTHING?"

The reason you would need this is because if you aren't using the crystal at it's full power you need extreme concentration to create anything specific

You can easily create simple shapes with basic materials but if you're trying to create something like a gun you need to concentrate a lot and know exactly how everything in it works

So it's good to have an easy accessible storage space

The only other thing I could tell you about the crystal is what it does at full power

But...

Let's just say it's better to see for yourself...
