Having lived and voted in a place with a multiparty system. It’s worse. Small even more extreme parties gain outsized power in order to form multiparty coalitions, giving religious groups power over education or racists power over immigration or socialists power over the economy. It’s not better.

America has the nationalSOCIALISTS fighting the NATIONALsocialists and each side pushing the other to more extrem measures.
Republicans and Democrats are already the nightmare multiparty coalitions you speak off!

While no system is perfect a breaking of the two party system would at least give the centre a fighting chance.
