You can have a “diverse state” whose government still shamelessly panders to white racists and kicks racial minorities and immigrants in the teeth at every given opportunity. “Diversity” alone doesn’t guarantee human rights or equity.

You might ask: “Well? If it’s really so bad in Florida, why don’t the immigrants and minorities just move out, rather than continue to live under such injustice?”

I really do think Ron DeSantis’s aggressively knuckleheaded and retrograde policies are consciously designed to turn away women, immigrants, young people, minorities, and educated people in general from seeking a future in Florida — all of which just so happen to be Democratic-leaning demographic groups.
It’s a very viable strategy for keeping Florida in the Republican column for the time being, but is it a strategy for good government in general?
A state chock full of cookie-cutter, straight, white, and wealthy Trump-voting retirees sounds great and all in theory, but… who will grow their food? Cook their meals? Do their laundry? Tend their golf courses? Provide them top-notch medical care?
In many cases, the answer is Immigrants. They get the job done!
Turn them away at your own peril!
