That's AWESOME!
I love that part of the country, and I've been wanting to get back for the Cumbres & Toltec scenic railroad. It would HAVE to be a great ride.
I've camped out in Monument Valley, with my tent oriented toward the east, for an epic sunrise.
The entire Four Corners area wouldn't seem like much to some people, but I just love it. I had a great time in the little restaurant shack there at the Four Corners monument, where the big Native American dude gave me a long and involved lecture on making fry bread perfectly. He even showed me his five-gallon lard bucket, to demonstrate that only posers use anything else. That was so great that I wrote it into a fictional short story, soon to be published.
I've had the tamales from the Carniceria Sonora in Farmington, which are the _best ever_!
Hiking in that entire area is great. Where better to get lost than back in the Canyonlands?
I'm so jealous. Please make a point of enjoying any little random thing there in your area this coming weekend, and I'll be sure to have vicarious pleasure from it.
Back to trains, I had a ride pulled by a geared steam locomotive this summer, with the Cass Scenic Railroad. The 22-mile trip up to Bald Knob and back required 4 stops to service the locomotive (including at the end), which was a very weird machine. All the moving parts, hanging out on the left side of the locomotive, were nothing less than trippy. What a strange machine!
Thanks for your comment!
