I know this was old news 2 decades ago but it still pisses me off. The whole purpose of the prequels was to illustrate how Anakin became Darth Vader. His mom dying would have been an excellent plot device if they had put a little more thought into it. The Jedi Council, who knew both Anakin's importance and his emotional instability, could not and would not have left his mom to rot. As it stands the 3 options we're left with for why they did, based on the films as released, are:
1) The Jedi were too stupid to rescue his mom, thus denying him the comfort and security of knowing his only living family member was nearby and (presumably) safe.
2) They knew and didn't care.
3) They knew and couldn't come up with resources equivalent to what a struggling moisture farmer on a backwater desert planet was able to offer for a single piece of chattle.
Each of these three scenarios insults the viewer as well as the entire Star Wars franchise. There's no way I'm the only one still aggrieved by this.
