Westerners see Juggernaut as some rampaging force that destroys everything in it's path. Actually Hindu god Jagannath is an avatar of Vishnu, whose name means "Lord of the Universe." One of the ways he is honored is with a festival in which an enormous
chariot containing his image is paraded through the city. There are also chariots for his brother & sister. The chariots are not made to crush anyone. The claims of Indians getting crushed under the wheels were made by colonial governors & missionaries mainly & is likely the usual stereotyping.
