It hasn't really helped many people here. The Philippines has one of the most highest adolescent birth rates in South East Asia. I've heard many stories about girls getting pregnant at the young age of only 14, 13, even 10. They never finish school, they live the rest of their lives forced to take care of their children, barely even making enough money to feed them all. And then the same thing happens to their kids, and their grandkids, and the cruel cycle goes on and on. Some even try getting an abortion illegally, but since most can't afford to bribe the doctor to perform a safe abortion, they resort to cheap abortions which are often done by non-professionals and are unsafe and many women die of these unsafe abortions. Parents and teachers fail to educate children about safe sex and abstinence. And though the Philippines has free healthcare, it's not up to the standard of privileged, private hospitals. 2,600 women die every year due to complications in pregnancy. And how about the adoption excuse conservatives love to use so much? Only 139 children are adopted every year from 2014 to 2018, and there are at least 2 million orphaned children in the Philippines.

I could list so many reasons why the strict ban on abortion has done so little to help our country, and it breaks my heart that America, the great and powerful land of the free, would allow all of this to happen to their people. This is why I believe that abortion should be made legal.

I totally agree. Reading about these girls and the quality of life they and their children are forced to endure is heartbreaking. It's not only an argument for a solid right to abortion, but for strong health and reproductive health services and lots of science-based sex ed.

I see what you are saying jemy, I understand this, but the problem is really the lack of a moral standard on when to have sex.

Contrary to popular belief, the US supreme court has not banned ONE abortion in the USA.
The international media is purposely lying about this to prop up certain far left American politicians fundraising efforts leading up to a major US election at the end of 2022.
Some US states and cities have banned most abortions after 6 to 8 weeks using what we call "heartbeat bills" that only allows EARLY TERM abortions. This is not an abortion ban as women can still get all the abortions they want, as long as they do it early.
For international comparison: Italy has banned most abortion after the first 30 days for many years. This is not an abortion "BAN" and has not resulted in catastrophic teen pregnancy. It simply means women have to decide early on to kill the baby or else use an over-the-counter "plan B" style abortion drug to induce miscarriage.
I bring this to your attention because it's easy to get caught up in the rhetoric and only read the headlines of international news, instead of the whole article.
There is no "US ABORTION BAN," there will be no "US ABORTION BAN" & the people saying there is are just trying to raise money for certain US politicians running on a "pro abortion" platform.
There are going to be very extreme restrictions on late term abortions, but there is a huge difference between banning late term abortions and banning all abortions.

Yet, the most loudest people in your party say they won't stop until all of abortion is banned, so there is that. Once more, the freedom to travel state to state is not protected as Democrats sought to put in a bill that would ensure women had the federal right to cross state lines for reproductive health.

Republicans blocked it.

Some states have already started making such laws which prevent receiving healthcare over state lines.

It isn't so much a "I don't want that "evil" in my state."

Where it would be closer to:

"If you live in my state, your uterus belongs to us when there is biochemical life within it. It is now your job to nourish the life and keep it alive at all costs. You have lost all rights and considerations in this manner.

Only when the child leaves your body can you refuse to give it blood transfusions or kidneys. Hell, you can even keep your organs when you die. But right now? Your body is under state jurisdiction."

Instead of leaving it to the personal choice which literally affected nobody. This is entirely a means of control and also the religious right working its darndest to marry church and state, regardless of how much the right would seek to deny it as they depend on the votes of the evangelical south and conservative Christians in the mid west.

I don't know what is upsetting more, them trying to convince me that I'm not seeing what I am seeing, or if they're legitimately so in denial as to not see it.

I don't know about all that.
But I know what Jemy is talking about: banning all abortions. All abortions aren't being banned. Most abortions after 6, 8 or 15 weeks? Maybe. But that's an abortion restriction not an abortion ban. Big difference.

This tracks where abortion is illegal (Dark Blue), legal but banning soon (gray), and light blue for legal.

Of the states who are either currently legal, but awaiting ban, or banned; these are the states in which there is no provision to permit an abortion in the cases of rape or incest: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio.

States that may or may not have exceptions, these are the ones where no matter what week you are in the pregnancy, any and all forms of abortion are illegal, some may have e: Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

There was recently a story about a woman who wanted to file divorce, and found out some weeks (or days, cant remember) that she was pregnant. The divorce could not go through because child custody could not go through due to the fact that the child in question does not legally exist. Thus, child custody cannot be determined. However, you cannot be given an abortion because the child exists.

And as I said before, they're making it illegal to cross state lines as women for reproductive health.

In short, you're right. But you need to shed more context on what you're talking about. While certainly the situation isn't as you depict the left wing of showing it to be, the law just became that much more thin to having rights taken away from all women.

It is now more illegal in this country than it was six months ago, and *millions* of women have lost their right to chose whether or not they can be vessels for nourishment for state property.

[image deleted] No, it hasn't: It's handed the matter off to the states, many of which have already banned all abortions. If ignorance of the law is no excuse for people who are arrested, how much less of an excuse is it for judges on the highest court of the land?

No state has banned all abortion. Banning some. Most abortions after 6 to 8 weeks is not banning all abortions. That's my point: abortion isn't banned. Abortion is restricted. Big difference.
