It started with the Weather Underground and Socialist Democratic Students (SDS) groups in the 1960’s. They incited violent riots at atheist 1968 Democrat National Convention, but their actions did not achieve their goals. The Weather Underground split in two, with one leader believing success would come not through violence, but by working within the system. Neither the Communist or Socialist parties, being pariahs at the time, were viable choices. Thus the infiltration of the Democrat party. Hillary wrote her thesis (presently sealed so nobody knows what she wrote) at Columbia University on Saul Alinsky, a radical Marxist.

Might I suggest you start with an early American settlement at Plymouth Plantation headed by the Englishman John Bradford.

“Bradford’s History of Plymouth Plantation 1606-1646” by William Bradford is a good read. You can find it online.

Or look into Jamestown, founded in 1607. In the winter of 1609-10, called "The Starving Time," the population fell from five-hundred to sixty. A few years later they made some changes and flourished.

any "usurpation" never amounts to anything. Entryist movements exist (Corbyn was kinda part of one, earlier in his career; so was Tony Blair), but they quickly wind up subsumed and recuperated by the party. Functionally they're just a way of capturing leftists' energies to the end of the party's goals, by dangling "well you could take over one day" in front of them. There are structural barriers put up to your taking power, to the point where if and when you actually do, you've moderated to such an extent that you can't be said to be usurping anything. There are SDS people in the Democratic Party, some of 'em I think went on to be important organizers. They're not Maoists anymore.
