it's such a hassle to juggle on and off PvP tho. and sometimes I'm not even afk I'm just typing in the chat and then boom I'm dead

yes! and sometimes i don't realize the chat bar is up in terraria and then i'll be typing aaaaaaaaa or ddddddddd and wonder why i'm not moving
