I had a Mormon CO who took command from the previous CO who was the hardest drinking functioning alcoholics that you'd ever want to work for. When we went to the field the first thing to go up after the hooches and mess tent was the beer tent. MACS stood for Maximum Alcohol Consumption Squadron.

When we got the Mormon it came to a screeching halt. No fun allowed after that.

When I was in Panama, the Class VI store was on the bottom floor of our barracks. This was ‘89. They had a daily special: 1/5 of booze, a case of beer and a VHS tape rental for 1 day for $5. Needless to say, by the time I left after 15 months, I was a fantastic functioning alcoholic grunt. Monday morning postwide fun runs were painful. The CO’s would bet on how many people would throw up. Good times.

Nice! Yep, that brings back memories. Forward areas, oddly enough, were sometimes the best. In Okinawa they had "Bosses night" at the clubs, usually on a Wednesday night. The idea was to buy your senior NCOs and officers so many beers/drinks that they'd be as hung over as you the next day.

I did about a week in Panama in '97 on the way back from Peru. Had a great time, seems like it would have been a great place to be permanently stationed.
