The Centipede was not a poorly made machine. Baldwin products worked extremely well in the correct operating areas. FM products were always poorly maintained due to lack of money and experience (with exceptions), DD35's and DDA35's suffered a few electrical issues and their massive hulking carbody inconvenienced them, the SD90MAC's suffered due to overheating and engine trouble and the C855's had electrical issues.

They were poorly made in the fact that no two engines were built the same making it a nightmare to maintain that's why some were rebuilt internally
