The National Socialist German Workers Party used to be called simply the German Workers Party. It was, in fact, Hitler himself who added the name socialist.
Hitler may have banned trade unions, but he created something much like it. An arm of the government called the German Workers front, or DAF, to do the same things that unions do, like advocate for better working conditions and whatnot. He also created a program, called the strength through Joy program, to use money from taxes to provide numerous benefits to Germans, among them paid internal vacations.
In short, yes he was a socialist. The only reason he hated communism was because he thought that the Jews created it. Ideogically, he was very similar to the Marxist. Practically the only difference is that Hitler also included race in his ideology.
